My client is a global and leading alternatives focused investment manager with several investment strategies. They manage several high profile mandates with over $6 billion in assets under management and an impressive track record of investors returns over many years (over 18% for more than 20 years). They see an opportunity in their coverage of unlisted markets and are looking to to hire an Investment Associate to bolster these efforts. Sectors targeted are broad but are within industries that have strong demographic drivers and high barriers to entry which have included: Consumer/Retail, food production and processing; petrol stations, data centres, aged care, renewable energy, student accommodation, amongst others.

The Investment Associate will work closely with the broader Investment team with responsibility for analysing potential new investments including research into wider industry dynamics, running commercial and financial due diligence, developing investment committee papers and client presentations, managing transaction related processes and asset management work in relation to portfolio businesses.

You will come from an M&A, project finance or corporate finance background with a demonstrated technical skill set in the context of an investment environment. We will be considering candidates with around 2-5 years’ experience who also bring considerable commercial acumen along with the relevant technical skills as noted above. The Australian function of this business is focused currently on Infrastructure and Agriculture with a team of roughly 10 based in Sydney.

Reporting to a VP the Analyst will have the following duties:
Related to transaction work: this will be to assist with secondary transactions (ie offering assets globally to local Australian and Asian clients) and co-investment deals where the function will be to run transaction diligence, review GP financial models and investment packs with findings to be presented to the client.
Related to Asset Management the function will include: Initiating and affecting board level outcomes within the company to maximise client returns; Challenging and understanding the proposal of business plans by management; Reading and understanding the content of board meetings, what is coming up for board approval or what has been approved, monitoring and understanding performance across all areas of the asset, involvement in refinancings/CAPEX reviews or M&A (understanding, testing assumptions) within the assets; analysing quarterly reports, reporting and presenting all of the above to clients.
