Unique opportunity to assume a leadership role in the international business development team of this NZ public agency.

Tasked with leading and developing a team of investment professionals, the team’s purpose is to identify and originate potential inbound investors and businesses who can benefit from New Zealand as an Investment location, and provide long term foreign direct investment. Your role will be pivotal in developing and advocating the investment strategy and leading the development of investor networks throughout Australia whilst being able to manage key strategic relationships with investment and associated industry groups in the public and private sector, including key state and city politicians and authorities. Based in Sydney you will lead a team that develop investment proposals, deliver pitches and ultimately ensure successful deal completion. As an Investment Director you will utilise your relationship building and networking skills to create a pipeline of activity to ensure the Australian region delivers on its contribution to the Investment annual business plan. An integral aspect to the role will be your ability to mentor your team members and ensure the growth and development of the business and team.

Successful applicants will have likely gained 8+ years experience in either Corporate Finance ( M&A/DCM/ECM), Institutional Banking , Professional / Transactional Services /Consulting, Corporate Development or Private Equity and will have proven networking, relationship building and leadership skills. You will have strong commercial acumen with a demonstrated understanding of the business and investment environment and will display strategic capability and expertise in identifying investment opportunities. As an advocate for this public agency you will operate with a high level of accountability and integrity and will have a driven and results focused mindset. Ideally you will have a strong affiliation with New Zealand.

Salary range: $200 – 250k package

The Debt Investments team provides borrowers with bespoke funding solutions to complete projects or finance businesses whilst offering investors structured, secured and strong risk adjusted returns.

Reporting to the Head of Debt Investments and being part of the broader investment team, your role will cover business development and deal sourcing across the corporate market as well as end to end execution from origination through to deal completion. This will involve conducting commercial negotiation and deal structuring including credit risk analysis and review, as well as transaction due diligence and preparation & presentation of investment committee approval papers.

You will hold tertiary qualifications in Business, Commerce, Finance or Accounting and – for the Investment Director/Senior AD role, preferably 8-10 years+ corporate lending/finance experience gained in a major commercial bank, investment bank, private equity firm or from a debt fund or advisory firm. 3-5 years experience is required for the Analyst/Associate role.

These roles require a track record of analysing, originating and executing corporate loan transactions, with strong relationship building and deal management skills including a deep client network. You will have a diverse technical skill base including: strong credit risk skills; ability to prepare & present investment committee papers; review and negotiate term sheets and execute formal legal documentation. To be successful you will have likely gained 2-3 years financial modelling experience from either a CA firm, advisory firm or banking platform and have advanced Excel and financial analysis skills with the ability to build and review three way financial models.
