NAIF is a development financier that was established by the Federal Government in 2016 in order to provide senior debt to support the development of infrastructure projects in northern Australia. NAIF provides loans to encourage and complement private and public sector investment in economic infrastructure. NAIF has now made commitments (in the form of investment decisions and conditional commitments) across 23 investments in North Queensland, Northern Territory and Western Australia valued at $2.4 Billion.

An exciting new opportunity has arisen for a Chief Credit Officer to join NAIF. The organisation has built an enviable track record in recent years and has now financed billions of developments across diversified infrastructure, renewable/clean energy, real estate & property, agribusiness, natural resources and tourism sectors. NAIF has an exciting investment & financing mandate with the unique position and opportunity to drive economic prosperity & broader public benefit. With an active pipeline of investment & financing opportunities across a wide range of sectors, the CCO will be part of their expanded mandate and growth aspirations.

Reporting directly to the CEO, you will manage all day-to-day aspects of Credit Risk Management. You will be responsible for contributing to the strategy and success of NAIF, through the provision of expert financial and credit risk advice to the NAIF Executive Management Group (“EMG”) and the Board and ensuring the ongoing protection of NAIF’s interests. Leading a small team, you are required to provide the highest level of advice, analysis and process management of credit risk across NAIF, and for the development and implementation of NAIF’s Credit Policy. As a key senior member of the NAIF EMG, you will work closely with the CEO and EMG to drive key strategic initiatives and ensuring the business operates efficiently and effectively, as well as providing key support to the NAIF Board and Investment Team.

You will not only oversee and be responsible for the technical credit risk components for NAIF, but provide leadership and oversight of the ongoing management of the investment portfolio, leading a portfolio management team. You will also work with the Chief Operating Officer in the monitoring of NAIF’s Risk Management framework..

You will hold a relevant tertiary degree in Commerce, Finance, Business and or Law, likely supported by professional accreditation in risk management, and/or post graduate qualifications. In addition, you will have 15 years+ experience working in financial services (e.g. banking, insurance, professional services) including 5+ years in a senior Credit Risk Management function – including effective leadership and communication skills and proven development of staff to create a high performing team. You will have an excellent working knowledge and understanding of credit risk practices and processes, and Australian regulatory requirements and expectations.

Our client is a specialist and significant investor and financier to the Australian market, specifically in renewable energy, efficiency and emissions technologies, transport, real estate, manufacturing, agriculture, and in recent times also into innovation and aggregation platforms. Their investment portfolio comprises a relatively low volume of predominantly high dollar value transactions. To support continuing growth, they are now seeking to appoint a Director Risk & Portfolio Mgt to provide credit risk and portfolio support to the Origination team in structuring and executing transactions.

Reporting to the Chief Risk Officer, you will support the Origination team and Chief Investment Officer in conducting credit analysis and preparing investment papers, ensuring adherence to investment & loan policy and credit ratings. You will manage conditions precedent sign-offs to bring deals to financial close and review all aspects of due diligence, as well as supporting the investment committee in reviewing all transactions. Key to your role, is providing assessment on investment risk of proposed transactions, and provision of feedback to the Origination team in structuring deals and risk appetite.

With relevant tertiary qualifications in Finance, Accounting, or Business, you will have 15+ years’ credit risk and/or portfolio mgt experience gained from a corporate/investment bank, investment fund, other financial institution or advisory firm. You have developed technical skills in credit analysis, financial products, and legal structures, with extensive experience in project finance, corporate finance, property finance and securitisation, risk assessment and loan management. Experience with debt, equity and venture capital would be viewed favourably. Your strong problem solving skills and confidence in working with new and innovative structures and solutions will lead to positive investment outcomes. An accomplished communicator, you can explain complex concepts to both clients and stakeholders, and your excellent organisation skills, allow you be effective with tight deadlines and high pressure situations.
