After 262 days in Lockdown, Victoria’s work from home directive will cease.

A sense of certainty now prevails and employers have quickly responded with a sudden hive of hiring activity akin to the old hustle and bustle of latte meetings in the Collins street precinct. There is no doubt the way of doing business with remote working has been embraced, although with some challenges, particularly getting the mix of days in office/WFH right for employers/employees. Getting the policy right and working with staff to get the best outcome for both will be important. We have fielded numerous enquiries about opportunities with a pure WFH component, in some cases an item high on potential candidate’s wish lists.

On the employer’s side its created new opportunities for a broader candidate pool with the sudden mobility of the labour force options in other states, where previously this was out of bounds for most. Whether or not you have become a Teams or Zoom expert during this time it is certainly going to be part of the future. In the recruitment world a blend of both is reality, though sitting opposite someone in an office or over a coffee will continue to play an important role in the future. The impromptu nature of seeing and chatting to a colleague in the coffee room or clients and candidates in Collins street with a “give me a call, I need your help” is irreplaceable and will be welcomed I’m sure.
