2024 Wrap Up

We are happy to close the year with a bumper edition of our Movers & Shakers.

Despite a rather patchy deal environment over the last 12 months it has clearly not impacted the hiring activity amongst our clients. Investment banking has seen a steady trade of personnel with juniors joining international firms to backfill departures often to the buy side, whilst senior staff have chosen to move to the boutique or independent side.

In funds land, both public and especially private players have continued to add to their capability - especially those that have successfully built out multiple strategy initiatives.

Even the corporate sector has hired more than its usual pound of transactional and investment flesh with the privately owned businesses being the destination of choice for many.

So, on that note we draw a line in the sand on 2024 with an expectation of a similar if not more active hiring market into 2025 with deal activity picking up as some have predicted.

• Paul Griffiths of Jefferies has been appointed as Managing Director & Head of Industrials and Financial Sponsors coverage with Deutsche Bank. Whilst Jared Cohen previously Director, FIG Investment Banking with HSBC, has joined the firm as Head of Capital Solutions, APAC.

• Elizabeth Fritts has joined Grant Samuel’s corporate advisory team from PwC where she was Partner, M&A & Partner, Corporate Development.

• Vicky Liang previously with Jarden has joined Goldman Sachs as an Executive Director, Investment Banking. Terry Gill previously with Evercore in the US, has also joined the firm within the Financial & Strategic Investors Group as Executive Director. Sam Eaton, ex UBS, has joined as Investment Banking Associate in the FIG team.

• Andrew Milsom prior with Shaw & Partners, has joined Latimer Partners as a Director.  

• Phoebe Orr has relocated to Sydney with Blackpeak Capital as a Director, from Houlihan Lokey in London where she was a Senior Vice President.

• Manbir Miglani has joined Gresham Partners as a Vice President, from Macquarie where he was an Investment Banking Associate.  

• Emily Goodwin, ex EY, has joined 333 Capital as an Associate Director.

• Alexandra Ioannou (ex Grant Samuel) & Robert Coyle (ex IBI Corporate Finance, Ireland) have joined UBS as Associate Directors, Investment Banking. Tom Morton (ex Greenhill & Co.) & Wade Cubbin (ex CBA) have also joined the firm as Investment Banking Analysts.

• Raman Singh has joined Deutsche Bank as Vice President, Non-Bank Financial Institutions Coverage from HSBC. Daniel Goh & Cormac Gallagher previously Associate, Corporate Advisory with Grant Samuel & Investment Banking Associate from Societe Generale respectively have also joined the firm.

• Shivani Shah has rejoined Morgan Stanley as Vice President, Real Estate, she was most recently with Jarden. Helen Andersson, ex E&P Financial Group has joined Morgan Stanley as an Investment Banking Associate.

• Alistair Kefford, ex DC Advisory in New York, has joined Barrenjoey as Principal, Corporate Finance. Maxwell Davies has also joined the firm as Principal in ECM, from Shaw & Partners.

• Timothy Sammon, ex Houlihan Lokey has joined RBCCM as Vice President.

• Dom McEwen has joined JP Morgan as an Investment Banking Associate from Miles Advisory Partners.

• Elizabeth McAlpine has been appointed as Chief Risk Officer & Head of Corporate Credit Risk with Citi following her tenure with JP Morgan most recently as Head of Credit Risk ANZ.

• Will Mortimer has been appointed as Partner, Head of Structured Finance with Barrenjoey. Will has earlier experience as Managing Director & Head of Global Spread Products, Financing & Securitisation with Citi.

• Tim McGivern has joined SMBC as Executive Director, Credit APAC from DBS where he was Head of Credit Risk. Denise Christey previously with BNP Paribas, has joined SMBC as Vice President, Deposits.

• Aruna Kumarage has joined CEFC as Director, Credit Risk from Commonwealth Bank where he was Director, Infrastructure & Project Finance.

• David Reynolds previously Director, Corporate Finance with Commonwealth Bank, will be joining NAB in the new year as Executive, High Growth & Emerging Corporate, VIC.

• George Jovanoski has joined MUFG as Director of Business Development, Australia. George relocated from New York where he was an Executive Director with JP Morgan.

• Dushant Narula has joined UOB as Vice President, Client Coverage from Deutsche Bank where he was Assistant Vice President, Trade Finance & Lending. Whilst Steve Jun has joined the bank as Assistant Vice President, Client Coverage. Steve was most recently with ShopBack Singapore.

• Charlie Zhang, ex Agricultural Bank of China, has joined Mizuho as Vice President, APAC Credit.

• Jonasz Pedryc has joined Invesis as a Project Finance Manager from Housing Australia where he was a Senior Associate.

• Katrina Glover previously COO Australia with Credit Suisse, has joined Westpac as Managing Director, Chief Operating Officer, Financial Markets.

• Allied Credit Group sees the appointments of David Bleakley (ex Vixory Capital) as Group Treasurer & Andrew Robinson (ex humm group) as Deputy Group Treasurer & Head of Funding.

• Nathan Wong has joined APA Group as Assistant Treasurer from Woolworths Group.

• Hugh Lungmuss has joined ANZ Bank in financial institution sales. Hugh has prior experience with Barclays in London.

• David Gribble has been appointed as Chief Executive Officer of Alceon and starts his new role in January. David has had prior experience as Partner, Head of Private Credit Investing Asia & Head of Private Alternatives Investing ANZ with Goldman Sachs. Maitreyi Davé has also joined the Alceon team as an Associate from Dynasty Equity New York.

• Ed Bostock of Wesfarmers, has joined Anchorage Capital Partners as a Managing Partner. He was most recently CFO of Wesfarmers’ Health.

• Nicholas Onie has been appointed to lead Ares Management’s new private equity arm. Nicholas was previously Principal with Bain Capital.

• Michael Johnston who has earlier experience as Managing Director, Corporate Finance with Ord Minnett, has joined EQT Group as Head of Origination.

• David Allen has been appointed as Deputy CIO, Alternatives for Future Group. David has prior experience with a private philanthropic trust as their Head of Investments.

• Harrison Moot & Fraser Christie previously from TDM Growth Partners, have founded Sandstone Funds.

• Matt Storey has been appointed as Head of Corporate Finance with Ord Minnett, joining from Bell Potter Securities where he was Director, Corporate Finance. Fionn Crowley has also joined the firm as an Analyst, M&A from Monash Advisory.

• Bevin Shields has joined OneVentures as a Partner, Growth Equity Investments. He joins from Bailador Technology Investors where he was Partner & Head of Investor Relations.

• Vantage Asset Management sees the addition of Jonathan Kelly (of Pollination) to its Board, Oliver Hedley-Whyte as Investment Director (ex of Next Capital & Odyssey Private Equity), David Abraham (ex CDPQ) as Investment Analyst & Alicia Cook as published earlier this year.  

• Will Macnae (ex Armitage Associates) & Mo Ajjaoui (ex Auctus Investment Group) have founded a new equity growth fund, Venn Partners.

• Steve Mazzarelli who was Head of Distribution with Fortitude Investment Partners, has joined Gresham Partners as an Executive Director.

• Michael Bendeli who was most recently with InfraRed Capital Partners in London, has joined Pacific Equity Partners as a Director.

• Lara Ong has joined Next Capital as an Investment Director from Potentia Capital.
