Communication & Expectations - An Exercise in Patience and Persistence

We are all busy – or say we are even when we aren’t. Two key words in managing life and work – including recruitment/search processes = Communication and Expectations

It has been an interesting 2-3 years post Covid with lots to do and the market providing some great opportunities for clients and candidates alike. We are still seeing some great mandates across the market at all levels – not just replacement / upgrade hires but also growth and expansion hires – demonstrating that confidence is still there.

Despite a strong start to 2024 – some search processes have become an exercise in patience – navigating for all parties to achieve the desired outcome.

Candidates – waiting to hear back re client interest and availability, as well as timing – and ultimately useful feedback.

Clients – committing and allocating the time to engage properly in an efficient process.

Recruitment Partners – managing both sides to ensure the ultimate outcome (placement) is achieved for all parties.

Clear communication regarding a hiring process is key – providing realistic expectations / timelines / who is involved and when and clear messaging in terms of expectations, on both sides.

Expectation management is critical in managing all parties to ensure no surprises for all parties. Transparency (and honest feedback) across all stages maximises the chance of all parties to reach agreement. If in doubt, ask.

So what are our recommendations?

Clients - be clear and transparent in what you are seeking in what are critical hiring decisions

Candidates - be clear in your expectations (and commitment) to ensure your understanding and requirements are met.

Recruitment Partners - it’s up to you to bring this together, so take the lead in managing the process – don’t let it lead you.

Onward and upward for H2.
