About the Opportunity
Senior Investment Associate

Our client is a diversified miner and marketer of critical commodities with a strong global presence, producing over 100 million tonnes of coal annually. They have a significant presence across both thermal and metallurgical coal, being involved in multiple large acquisitions over recent years. The firm is looking to add a Senior Investment Associate to their M&A/Corporate Development team in their Sydney office.  

The key features of this role are:

• Report to General Manager Coal M&A/Business Development & Finance

• Plays a central role on coal M&A, corporate development, financial reporting and strategic analysis including business case comparisons

• Involvement in strategic analysis to support the firm’s market leading carbon emissions reduction initiatives including valuation work on renewable energy projects

• Regular interaction with CEO of Global Coal Business Unit

• Significant autonomy and responsibility with the opportunity to gain a deep understanding of the technical side of the business which actually drives value

• Strong deal flow, high value transactions

• Previous personnel have progressed to more senior roles across the broader business

The successful candidate will fit the following:

• ~3-6 years’ experience in corporate advisory from either an investment bank, leading independent advisory firm or big 4 CA team

• Thrive in a relatively unstructured environment without the need to be micro-managed

• Able to work as part of a team

• Strong finance and modelling skills with demonstrable commercial acumen

• Strong analytical and problem solving skills with attention to detail

• Entrepreneurial and comfortable taking initiative and ownership

• Powerpoint skills and ability to develop presentations

• Experience in conduct and management of due diligence processes
