The Firm

My client is a unique private equity fund with an investment mandate and approach that allows them to invest in and add value to successful, founder-led businesses in the Australian mid-market with significant growth potential. The fund has a distinct approach to its provision of growth capital, along with an active value creation and long-term investment horizon which has allowed it to stand out from its peers. Due to the growing sophistication of PE Origination functions needed to capture better quality proprietary deal flow, my client is looking to hire two Origination Managers to be based in Sydney or Melbourne.

The Role

The Origination Manager role will report to the Head of Origination and focus on building a pipeline of investment opportunities for the fund through direct origination activities.

Key responsibilities for the role will include:

• Direction Origination  

o Identify potential target companies/investments through a thematic or targeted investment approach

o Outbound approaches to & relationship building with business owners & management teams of potential targets to identify investment opportunities

o Market research & analysis on market data, industry trends & company information to support investment target identification

o Manage & triage direct inbound enquiries to the fund

• Advisor Coverage

o Build & maintain relationships with a broad range of corporate finance advisors to ensure the fund is kept abreast of all quality investment opportunities

• Technology & analytics

o Explore the use of data analytics & leverage AI to automate & enhance the fund’s deal sourcing processes

The Candidate

The successful candidate will fit the following criteria:

• ~4-8 years’ of experience in either Big 4 Transaction Advisory, Investment Banking/M&A Advisory, Leveraged & Acquisition Finance or Equity Research

• A deep understanding of corporate finance principles & business specific risks & the desire to apply this in an origination/investment context

• Demonstrated research & analytical capabilities

• A high degree of self-starting initiative

• A refined balance between genuine rapport building & driving for business outcomes
